Sample Request [TCS]

Occasionally there is an opportunity to provide access to samples obtained during R2K-funded Time Critical Studies (TCS) cruises. This webpage is designed to accommodate scientists interested in obtaining a portion of such samples for the purpose of conducting scientific research.

A small review board will consider all requests. The board will consist of a representative from the R2K Executive Committee and the Time Critical Studies investigator group, and will include the person responsible for the relevant data archive.

The general philosophy for such sample suites is to:

  • allow as much science as possible to be done
  • allow duplicate analysis (if not material limited) but request justification for why needed; Review board may say no if scientific gain is unlikely
  • maintain a list (R2K website) of approved sample requests so that others know what's been done and by whom
  • retain archive pieces of key samples, on which non destructive (only) measurements could be done (i.e. should return unaltered, unused portion of loaned 'key' sample when done)
