News: swarm fan email list [TCS]

Sign up if you want to receive detailed information about the real-time detection of moderate-sized earthquake swarms and tectonic events on the Juan de Fuca Ridge.

To sign up, please update your member information, indicating that you wish to join the TCS Swarm Fan email list.

Note: the whole Ridge 2000 community will still receive email announcements of all major events, and information will still be available via the TCS section of the Ridge 2000 website.

Goals

  • To provide a long-term, historic perspective of earthquake activity on the JdFR for all interested parties
  • To alert all researchers who may have in situ instruments on the JdFR to check for fluctuations/changes in their data

Email frequency

We plan to send out announcements:

  • If an earthquake swarm exceeds ~10% of the variance in the long-term (13 yr) JdFR earthquake database or is near an ISS or other well instrumented site (i.e., Axial Volcano).
  • Of exceptionally large tectonic events as well as past earthquake swarms (1–2 yr) recorded on hydrophone arrays along the East Pacific Rise and Mid-Atlantic Ridge.

We are also planning to compile and continually update a list of “events” with date, location, and seismic characteristics. This will be made available via through the R2K website.

First announced by email to the Ridge 2000 mailing list (June 20, 2005).
