News: SOSUS hydrophone system detected a small earthquake swarm of 34 events along the Northern Symmetric segment of the Juan de Fuca Ridge [TCS]
The SOSUS hydrophone system detected a small earthquake swarm of 34 events along the Northern Symmetric segment of the Juan de Fuca Ridge. The earthquakes began on February 28 at 0200Z and lasted for ~40 minutes. Although 34 events were detected, only one was large enough to be located at 47-04.4'N; -129-28.4'W. This part of the JdFR has had a history of low-level earthquake during the 14 years of SOSUS recording. The longitude of the event was difficult to constrain due to acoustic blackage of key hydrophone arrays west of the ridge, therefore the event may well be on-axis. No earthquakes in the swarm were large enough to be recorded by land seismic networks.
