Ridge 2000 Program Review
The purpose of the Program Review was to evaluate the scientific progress and results, the broader impacts, and the management of Ridge 2000 Program to date, in reference to the original program objectives. NSF convened a multi-disciplinary panel of scientists the last week of February 2008 to provide recommendations about the status, future directions, and the culmination of Ridge 2000 between now and 2012. Each of the scientists involved in the review (US and EU) are familiar with oceanic spreading centers and/or hydrothermal systems, although none had been integrally involved in Ridge 2000 investigations. Comments by this 'external' panel are considered advisory to NSF program managers, and R2K community members should take advantage of their perspective as a guide to continuing efforts within the Program. If you feel that aspects of the recommendations warrant discussion, we welcome your thoughts, whether online, in person with any Steering Committee member, or by phone/email to the Ridge 2000 Office.
