Education & Outreach: Ridge 2000 Image Bank
An effort is currently underway to develop and populate an Image Bank for the Ridge 2000 program, in conjunction with the Marine Geoscience Data System group at the Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory.
Although research conducted in association with the Ridge 2000 program has generated extensive collections of images over the years, much of this data has historically been divided between multiple databases and investigators, often making it difficult to quickly and efficiently locate quality images for scientific and education purposes.
The Image Bank will serve as a repository for images, video, photomosaics and illustrations that represent a subset - the "best of the best" — of imagery from all facets of the program. Such a resource will provide efficient access to imagery to meet the publishing and research needs of both the scientific and education/public outreach (EPO) communities. Image Bank content will be accessible to the scientific community via basic and advanced online search functions based on metadata associated with each entry. All copyright and use restrictions will be honored.
How you can contribute for broader impacts:
- Contribute content to the Image Bank to support education and outreach efforts for the program, including undergraduate and graduate teaching, K-12 education resources, web site content, and other publication requests
- Identifying appropriate content relevant to your research, and work with program staff to collect the necessary metadata associated with the provided content
