For Scientists

The Ridge 2000 Education & Outreach Program provides scientists with opportunities to bring the excitement of mid-ocean ridge research and the earth sciences to diverse audiences through formal and informal learning experiences. Whether you have a strong interest in sharing your research, or are simply seeking new avenues to address the NSF 'Broader Impacts' Criterion II, we can match your skills and interests to existing projects, or help to design a new one.

How you can contribute for broader impacts:

  • Distinguished Lecturer Series

  • From Local to EXtreme Environments (FLEXE) Project
    • Help develop and review Unit activities, including identifying appropriate data and imagery
    • Help respond to students' interactions as part of the online FLEXE Forum
    • Provide berth space for one or two educators on a research cruise, and contribute to education and communication efforts during the cruise
    • Participate in professional development opportunities for educators (either "in person" or virtually)

  • Ridge 2000 Media Bank
    • Submit images, videos, illustrations and animations to be used by the scientific community and for education and public outreach.
