Steering committee
The Ridge 2000 Steering Committee (STCOM) represents the broad community of scientists interested in the Ridge 2000 program. It sets directions and priorities for Ridge 2000 activities in response to community input and ensures that activities are carried out in a timely and effective manner. Members of the Steering Committee normally serve a three-year term, during which time they may also serve on one or more committees overseeing specific aspects of the program.
The Ridge 2000 Executive Committee (EXCOM) is a subset of the STCOM. It provides the Ridge 2000 chair with ongoing support and advice and is active year-round.

Deborah S. Kelley
Debbie Kelley's research is focused on understanding the relationships between geological, chemical, and biological processes in submarine hydrothermal systems. She is particularly interested in the evolution of volatiles within mid-ocean ridge environments. Two of her more focused study sites include the Endeavour Segment on the Juan de Fuca Ridge, and the Lost City field, near the Atlantis Fracture Zone. To examine the extreme conditions under which life thrives, survives and expires in the seafloor, she has developed a novel microbial incubator that is deployed inside the walls of active black smokers that provides direct time-series sampling of co-registered fluids, temperature, and newly colonized microorganisms. Kelley is also the Project Scientist for the under water cabled observatory that is part of the Ocean Observatories Initiative.
