Steering committee

The Ridge 2000 Steering Committee (STCOM) represents the broad community of scientists interested in the Ridge 2000 program. It sets directions and priorities for Ridge 2000 activities in response to community input and ensures that activities are carried out in a timely and effective manner. Members of the Steering Committee normally serve a three-year term, during which time they may also serve on one or more committees overseeing specific aspects of the program.

The Ridge 2000 Executive Committee (EXCOM) is a subset of the STCOM. It provides the Ridge 2000 chair with ongoing support and advice and is active year-round.

Marie-Helene (Milene) Cormier

Marie-Helene (Milene) Cormier investigates the various processes that control mid-ocean ridge morphology, at both the local and regional scales. Together with her colleagues, she also develops methods to investigate the timing and spatial extent of volcanic eruptions at mid-ocean ridges. These methods include near-bottom geophysical surveys with the AUV ABE, dating lava samples through paleomagnetic intensity measurements, and monitoring seafloor deformation with an array of bottom pressure recorders. More generally, she is applying a variety of geophysical methods to investigate prior seafloor events such as volcanic eruptions, fault ruptures, and fluid seeps.
