Student competitions
- National ROV Competition. Teams of high school, college, and university students (at least three students plus an adult advisor per team) compete to design and build a remotely-operated submarine vehicle. Registration required by December. Involves regional and national rounds.
- National Ocean Sciences Bowl. A national competition for high schools on topics related to the study of the oceans. Teams of four students (plus one alternate and a coach) are faced with timed multiple-choice or short-answer questions on ocean-related topics. Regional competitions are held in February; regional winners proceed to national finals in April.
Past programs
- SEAS: Student Experiments At Sea. A Ridge 2000 program for middle and high school students to learn science by doing science, alongside scientists. SEAS was designed to invite student research proposals that were then competitively selected and carried out at sea by scientists. An online Student Report Fair was also held each spring. Currently, SEAS curricular materials are still available and the program is transitioning to the GLOBE/FLEXE project.
