Pat Hickey - Expedition Leader, R/V Atlantis
- Where is your hometown?
- I was born in Calgary, Canada but have lived all over the world. I currently live in Vermont, 10 minutes from a ski hill and 5 minutes from the airport.
- What is your role on this cruise?
- I run all the diving operations and the science interface with the submarine, Alvin.
- How long have you been an Alvin pilot?
- I have been an Alvin pilot for 20 years.
- What is your education/training?
- I graduated from high school, started college and have lots of at sea experience. I worked as a commercial diver for various diving companies in the oil industry all over the world. The jobs varied tremendously. For example, one day I could be doing dam inspections, the next day diving in a sewer and then doing an underwater metal cutting and welding job.
- What are some of your favorite things about life at sea?
- Meeting some of the interesting science people.
- What do you like to do in your free time?
- Skiing and Flying - my home is very close to a ski hill and an airport.
