Kyle Bennett- Graduate Student, Rutgers University
- What do you do? Where do you work?
- I am a graduate student at Rutgers University. I'm an ecologist. I study how organisms interact with each other and with their environment.
- What is your role on this cruise?
- I'm here to help the senior scientists in whatever capacity they may need. I've been working at night with the Towcam and helping to process biological samples after collection by Alvin.
- What is your education/training?
- I majored in Biology at Antioch College. Currently I'm a PhD Candidate in the Ecology and Evolution program at Rutgers.
- What inspired you to choose your career?
- I learned to SCUBA while in high school from Dr. Stephen K. Webster, a scientist who worked at Monterey Bay Aquarium. He sparked my interest in a career in science.
- Please describe your family:
- My wife and I have a baby boy who is 8 months old.
- What are some of your favorite things about life at sea?
- Getting to know the other scientists and crews of Atlantis and Alvin. I've never met most of the other cruise participants before arriving on the Atlantis and I've enjoyed learning about their research and about life on the Atlantis.
