Crispin Hollinshead - Mechanical Engineer
- What do you do? Where do you work?
- I am a mechanical engineer for the Ocean Bottom Seismology group, providing equipment for marine geophysical investigations. I recently retired from Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego, but am still working part-time.
- What is your role on this cruise?
- We will recover gear deployed last May. We bring the instrument aboard, check clock drift, and download the data.
- What is your education/training?
- I have a BA in mechanical engineering from UCSD.
- What inspired you to choose your career?
- I worked my way through college in the forerunner of this lab, and have enjoyed the seagoing experience ever since.
- Please describe your family:
- I am married for the second time. I have three step-daughters from my first marriage, and a step-son from my present marriage.
- What are some of your favorite things about life at sea?
- I am a voracious reader, and use my time at sea like a seminar series, or a study program. I also am a movie addict, and watch a large number of movies that I would never pay money to watch on land.
- What do you do in your free time?
- I am a philosopher, model maker, and fine woodworker. For a complete picture of my interests, visit my website: www.bigriverlines.com.
